Watergate Videos

Over the years, Shepard has done a number of interviews and presentations on various aspects of the Watergate scandal, including:

  • February 9, 2012: Due Process and the Watergate Trials

Shepard had been invited by students on the law review of Chapman Law School in Orange, California, to participate in their January 27, 2012 Symposium, entitled Watergate and the Rule of Law, which also featured John Dean as keynote speaker. Shepard was removed from participating in the symposium, however, at the direction of the Symposium Faculty Sponsor. This is a link to David Whiting’s column that appeared on the front page of the Orange County Register on the day of the symposium, discussing Shepard’s removal:   http://www.ocregister.com/articles/shepard-337492-watergate-nixon.html

Shepard’s presentation was subsequently given at the Nixon Library on February 9th:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UmBiNCmlLs

  • May 24, 2010: Five Watergate Conspiracies

As a part of the Nixon Legacy Forums, Shepard did a talk at the Nixon Library entitled Five Watergate Conspiracies, that explored the ambiguities that still remain over the origin and purpose of the original Watergate break-in—and subsequent cover-up by former members of President Nixon’s White House staff. Here are the links to that presentation:

  • June 24, 2008: The Secret Plot Book Presentation

As a part of the rollout of his Watergate book, The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President, Inside the Real Watergate Conspiracy (Penguin Sentinel, 2008), Shepard did a presentation at the Nixon Library. While the videotaping was done by a Library docent, it does capture the overview of Shepard’s views on how the Watergate scandal was exploited for political purposes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gICgyHw95jg

  • Oral Histories with Dr. Naftali

Shepard helped Dr. Naftali to schedule oral histories with some seventy former members of President Nixon’s White House staff. These are the interviews that Dr. Naftali did with Shepard himself. [Tapes ordered from Nixon Library]
